Richard Wiggins (Silent Forum) Silent Forum frontman Richard Wiggins first joined the band (then brilliantly named How I Faked The Moon Landing) in 2013. Fast forward 4 years, and the newly-monickered Silent Forum are happily ploughing their own DIY furrow., self-releasing EP's and booking their own shows. Richard signed up to Barod to improve his understanding of the music industry and get some broader experience, with a view to growing the band's audience and consequently booking bigger gigs.
Michael Georgiou- Logical Mike Michael is a solo artist who goes by the name of Logical Mike and has been doing so for 10 years. Michael is currently self-releasing and seeking a live agent. Michael is looking for a manager for publishing purposes. He signed up to this course to become ‘business savvy’ about music publishing. He is hoping to gain knowledge in management, publishing to focus onto his career path as a musician.
Vince James Vince James is a solo artist who has been playing and performing music since he can remember. Vince is self-releasing his music and currently self-managing. He is looking to gain as much information within the music industry as possible from the course in order to help monetize his music career.
Sam Jones- Palomino Party Sam Jones is part of the band Palomino Party of which he has been a part of for 5 years. Palomino Party are signed to the lable ‘Black Cherry Records’. They are currently seeking a live agent and a manager. Sam signed up to the course to gather professional advice and information on everything business related to being in a band. Sam says that they have a simple knowledge of this already, but wanted a more in-depth explanation. Sam is hoping to learn more about promotion and management of a band that has been managing themselves for some years now. It is nice to hear from a professional what has been going right, and what has been going wrong for people!
Ashley Evans (The Broadcasts) Ashley is the drummer for Cardiff band The Broadcasts, a role which he has been in for 5 years. The Broadcasts are currently looking to sign to a record label and an agent to look after their live bookings. They are also seeking a manager, as they are finding self-management very demanding. Ashley signed up to the CMU:DIY / Barod core programme to get a further insight into the music industry from a professional perspective. Ashley is hoping to be able to further the band's career using the information and knowledge learnt during the sessions.
Jack Perrett Jack Perrett is a Cardiff-based solo artist. Don't be fooled by his youthful appearance though, Jack's been at it for 23 years now, self-releasing his music and managing his own affairs. He could do with some help now though and would love to find a manager to move his career along, hence him signing up to Barod. Jack hopes to meet new people and find novel ways to improve his career and his work.
Daniel Hulett (Ofelia) Daniel is part of the band Ofelia which has been running for 2 years now. They currently self-release their music and are seeking a live agent. They are self-managing and are not currently looking for a manager. Daniel signed up to the CMU:DIY Barod course to learn more on how to monetize music, gain better management skills and how to ‘DIY’. Daniel is hoping to gain more usable and practical knowledge during the course.
Naomi Rae is a solo artist who has been performing originals for around 18 months. Naomi is self-releasing, looking for a live agent and self - managing her career. She signed up to the course to have the opportunity to meet other people within the same situation, and also to learn more about the music business.
Jake is a solo artist who goes by the name of Project and has been doing since early 2015. Jake is currently looking for a label to be signed to and is seeking a live agent. Although he is self-managing, Jake says he is openly looking for a manager. Jake signed up to the course to learn more about the industry and have the opportunity to ask his own questions which will gain him feedback which he can put into use within his musical career. Jake hopes to gain knowledge for his career as an artist, make new contacts and to get some more depth on the knowledge he already has.
Phil Jones (Dusty Cat) Phil is the long-standing (7 years!) frontman of Cardiff's ethereal indie-folksters 'Dusty Cat' and has joined us at Barod to meet new people within the music industry and broaden his knowledge, with a view of 'the more I know, the easier it'll be'. Like many at Barod, Dusty Cat are currently self-releasing their music but would love to be signed to a label and if they were to pick up an experiened manager too then all the better. Phil is looking forward to 1-2-1 sessions at the end of the course.
Rory Coughlan-Allen- Boris a Bono Rory is part of a band named Boris a Bono which he has been with for 4 years. They are currently self-releasing and not currently looking for a live agent. The band are self-managing. Rory signed up to this course to gain knowledge of music business and to learn how to get his music to a wider audience. Rory is hoping to gain knowledge and industry information from this course as well as a little cash maybe!
John is a solo artist and has been performing as a solo artist for 5 years. He is self - releasing and seeking a live agent. Although John is self - managing, he is looking for a manager. The reasoning behind signing up to the course is that because he is self managed, he feels he is making things up as he goes along. John is hoping the course will give him more knowledge of how to manage himself and make partnerships he needs in order to become more successful.
Matthew Hann (Beatbox Hann) Matt is a solo beatboxer which he has been doing for 13/14 years but claims to have only taken seriously for the last 3/4 years. Matthew is currently looking for a label and is seeking a live agent. He is self-managing for the time being but will look for a manager in the future. Matthew is hoping to gain usable knowledge on how the music industry works to help with his career.
